BRSCC meeting Brands Hatch Easter Monday 2nd April 1956. On the exit of Paddock Hill Bend future Lotus designer Maurice Phillippe crashes his frontier-technology MPS-Ford which had a stressed-skin monocoque chassis years before Colin Chapman popularised such practice for competition car construction. From 1965-72 Maurice worked with Chapman during which time they produced the World Championship winning Lotus 49 for Graham Hill and Lotus 72 for Jochen Rindt and Emerson Fittipaldi. He left Lotus in 1972 and went on to design cars for Parnelli Jones and Ken Tyrrell. Maurice died in 1989.
